New Trip to the Simpson Desert

28/6 - Trip planning and the first day.
Well, we headed out for another Outback trip.  This time the main objective is to cross the Simpson Desert.  We were contacted by our Swedish friends who were planning a trip in July, so we jumped on the opportunity.  One normally doesn't do a Simpson desert crossing solo.  At least two vehicles are recommended.  Thus by joining up with our Swedish friends, we could do a true Viking Raid on the Simpson!
I also took the dashcam and the GoPro Hero3 cameras so I could document the whole trip and put on the Youtube channel I have.
We planned to meet up in Mt Dare and start out on the 12th of July and thus cross from West to East and end the trip in Birdsville.  Going West to East is considered easier as all the 1,100 or sand dunes have a slightly longer slope on the Western side than the Eastern side due to the prevailing wind directions.
We decided to take our camper trailer with us, but not for the Simpson crossing.  We drove the camper trailer to Birdsville and then left it there.  We then went down the Birdsville Track and Oodnadatta track to Mt Dare using our Oztent to camp.  Our trip panned out as the following map shows.  The white labels are numbered in sequence and point out the tracks for each day and the distance.  The dotted lines show the tracks we drove and the rounded labels highlight the places as this map doesn't call them out.
All in all we drove around 7,204km in this trip!

We started out from our home in Blacktown and headed to Junee to stay with our friends that have an excellent B&B just on the edge of Junee.  We took two spares for the camper trailer and the 4WD, just in case!.  On the way down to Junee it started to rain near Goulburn and when we went out there it was so freezing cold we thought we were back in Iceland!  What a terrible thought!!
