30/6 - From Ivanhoe to Tibooburra

We woke up early and left Ivanhoe just after sunrise.  Just outside Ivanhoe the Cobb Hwy changed from bitumen to gravel.  The gravel is mostly all the way to the Barrier Hwy.
The road is actually quite good and very scenic, especially at sunrise.  We had a number of near misses with Kangaroos trying to cross the road.  Somehow their timing was off, so they all escaped!
Once we hit the Barrier Hwy we stopped in Wilcannia to fuel up again.  Figured it would be more cost effective than in White Cliffs or Tibooburra.
Then we headed for White Cliffs.  The road there is all bitumen, so pretty easy going.  Along the way a flock of sheep ran across the road.  Their timing wasn't very good either, so they got away!
We didn't stop in White Cliffs, simply drove through and then took the gravel track (UR15) across to the Silver City Hwy and then to Tibooburra where we camped.  On the gravel track we discovered our first problem!  The water tank under the camper trailer was leaking all the water.  The rocks had simply knocked the hose connector off the tank and 70 liters of good quality Sydney water oozed out onto the road.  It was empty in a flash.  Thankfully we weren't relying on the water as we had more in the car.  There was nothing we could do so we simply taped up the loose water hose and that is how it is now.
When we got to Tibooburra we re-fued and then set up the camper trailer and camped overnight in the camp ground.  We wanted to leave early and not have to queue up at the fuel pumps in the morning.

In Ivanhoe, just before leaving at day break.

On the Cobb Hwy.  Misty morning at sunrise.
Cobb Hwy, Kangaroo hopping in front of us as we drive at 90km speed!
Along the way to White Cliff a flock of sheep ran across the road!
Just past White Cliffs a flock of Emus and Kangaroos ran alongside us.  Just visible near the top of the antenna (right side).

Lunch between White Cliffs and the Silver City Hwy.  The water leaking can be seen under the camper trailer.

On the Silver City Hwy, some of the eagles were slow to lift off their road kill!

Camping in Tibooburra.

Seeing over Tibooburra.  Some interesting boulders in the foreground!

Tibooburra. I loved that place, the boulder, the huge canoe, and rocky road to the Sturt NP.
When I'll be back in Europe, I know what I'm going to miss :)

I have been in Tibooburra several times already. This Township is a perfect stopover before heading north to Innamincka and further on.
I prefer to camp at Dead Horse Gully in Sturt NP, only 2 km away from Tibooburra.
